La Rambla

Today I spent the relaxing around the city center. Barcelona is beautiful. They speak Catalan which is pretty different from Spanish but to a foreigner sound similar. The streets look like modern day versions of a Spanish port town in Christopher Columbus´s day. Small, tight corridors among tall gothic buildings. Musicians add to the atmosphere as their guitars or accordians echo thru the alleys.

I visited a huge Cathedral designed by Gaudi called La Sagrada Familia. I now understand the full meaning of the term ¨gaudi¨. This thing is extrodinary! And over the top! They started building in the 1890´s and still have approx. 200 more years of construction! WHAT?!?!

One of the artists commissioned for some of the scultures around the cathedral has a flavor I find absolutely amazing. I´ll find his name and post his works. He has some pencil drawings on display in the Gaudi museum.

    Hi Jeremy,

We met and hung out with you on the (long and sleepless) train ride to Barcelona. Jason and Jessica from Tucson, soon to be California.

Anyway, enjoying your website very much. Nice work keeping up to date! We had a blast in Barcelona. Unfortunately, although we spent the whole day, every day, on the beach, we missed out on the all night rave that apparently went on Thursday night until 8am. We heard the fireworks but had no idea what the hell was being celebrated. We woke up the next morning to find that the tennant above us found a new use for his balcony as a toilet which dripped down on ours the entire night unbeknownst to us. It was a special way to start of the day, the smell was beyond words.

Anyway, that aside it was brilliant and now we´re in Madrid. Thinking about escaping to a Northern beach city for the day tomorrow as we have 2 unused days on our Eurail still left.

Where are you know? Checked out some of your tutorials and they were just as you said, very thorough. Nice work. Anyway, we just spent an exhaustingly long time at the Prada museum here but it was worth it. Not sure if you´ve been or are going but on Sundays, most of the major museums here are free.

Take care and look forward to hearing back from you!

    Best regards,

    Jason & Jessica Lindstrom

Hey there! Just wanted to say hi.
Did you know, the word “gaudi” in bavarian means “a blast” as in I’m having a blast! :)
I looked at the pictures. That cathedral is enormous! And with the way construction has sped up over the past century, it’s crazy to think that they have another 200 years ahead of them. I didn’t know about this cathedral, but now I want to check it out someday.

Love the fact that you’re traveling, but can’t wait till you get back!
    Miss you lots.
